            <title>Coaching Sailors With a Disability</title>

            <description><![CDATA[<div><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 10pt;" size="2" face="Arial"><img style="float: left;" class="img_align_left" alt="Boat 3 small" src="http://nsya.ns.ca/images/Boat%203%20small.JPG" width="300" height="225" />The NSYA together with Sail Able NS is excited to announce we are hosting a one-day Coaching Athletes With A Disability Module, on Sunday, June 2 from 8:30am - 5pm at the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron in Halifax.</span></div>
<div><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 10pt;" size="2" face="Arial"><br />Jenny Davey, from Montreal will be delivering the module.</span></div>
<div><br /><span style="font-size: 10pt;">NSYA will supply lunch that day to all participants. While the module will be delivered Sunday there will be an opportunity on Saturday afternoon to assist and learn more about the Martin 16s such as launching and stepping the mast.</span></div>

<div><span style="font-size: 10pt;"> <br /></span><span style="font-size: 10pt;" size="2"><span style="font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';">This course, which emphasizes hands-on practice, is designed to provide you the basics of what you need to know to get started especially in First Contact, Fundamentals, and learn to Sail Fast settings. Sailors with a disability are like any other sailors: they have diverse interests, abilities, personalities and needs. Like any sailor, it is most important to get to know each person individually so you can ensure a safe, productive, and enjoyable sailing experience.</span></span></div>

<span style="font-size: 10pt;"><span size="2"></span><span size="2"><span style="line-height: 115%; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';">This course is a professional development module created by Sail Canada in its ongoing effort to ensure coaches have access to resources and training required to work with any sailor. The development and refinement of this course have been supported by the Coach<span size="2">ing Association of Canada and the Canadian Paralympic <span size="2">Committee</span>. </span>Sail Canada Trained and Certified Coaches, of any level, are eligible to take this course</span></span>.</span>

            <title>NSYA Announces Canada Games Support Team</title>

            <description><![CDATA[<p><img style="float: left;" class="img_align_left" alt="CG Support" src="http://nsya.ns.ca/images/CG%20Support.JPG" width="300" height="225" />The NSYA is pleased to announce the support team for sailors represented to select the province at the 2013 Canada Games to be held in early August in Sherbrokke, Quebec.<br /><br />Head coach is 2 time Olympian and current Provincial Coach Lisa Ross with help from Women in Coaching Apprentice Coach Lesley Taylor. Team Manager is 2009 Canada Games gold medalist Jonathan Reid while 2008 Paralympic Champion Paul Tingley has been named Support Person for the team. All four will be present at the Canada Games along with up to two boat drivers who have yet to be named. Supporting all our support team is Kathy Spurr, Team Nova Scotia Mission Staff.<br /><br />The team will be slected following ARK Regatta in Beford July 6-7.</p>]]></description>

It contains lots of valuable information about setting courses, how to access the yacht database with the ratings and much more.</p>

            <title>Corinne Peters Qualifies for Youth Worlds</title>

            <description><![CDATA[<p><img style="float: left;" class="img_align_left" alt="corinne" src="http://nsya.ns.ca/images/corinne.jpg" width="300" height="200" />Corinne Peters from the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron has earned a spot on Team Canada that will be competing at the 2013 Volvo Youth Worlds Sailing Championships this July in Cyprus in the Laser Radial Class.</p>
<div><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;" size="2" face="Arial">She won the sailing trials over an Ontario sailor. The trials consisted of best score of two regattas the 2012 Youth Nationals and the 2013 Laser Mid-Winters East which was held on the weekend in Clearwater, FL. Corinne finished 23rd overall in the 105 boat fleet.</span></div>

Earlier this month Allie Surrette, Ali ten Hove, Jake Megaffin and Alex Sapp all qualified in the 420 class.</span></div>

<div><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 8pt;" size="2" face="Arial">The female team of Allie Surrette and Ali ten Hove from the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron finished 9th overall at the Club 420 Mid-Winter championships in Jensen Beach, FL. In August they captured the National Youth Championships in Gimli, MB and will be nominated by Sail Canada to represent the country in Cyprus.</span></div>

Their excellent result along with their finish at Youth Nationals also qualifies them to be nominated by Sail Canada.</span></div>

<div><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 10pt;" face="Arial" size="2">Allison Surrette and Ali ten Hove both from the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron are the recipients of the Female Youth Sailors of the year for their outstanding 2012 season in the 420 class. The duo set three Canadian records at three large US Regattas and also captured the Youth Nationals sailing championship.</span></div>

This award goes to the sailor with an outstanding achievement in national and international events, brought recognition to Canadian competitive sailing and has demonstrated an effort through sponsorship and fundraising.</span></div>

            <title>Brian Todd Wins NS Sailor of the Year</title>

            <description><![CDATA[<p><img style="float: left;" class="img_align_left" alt="Merit Small" src="http://nsya.ns.ca/images/Merit%20Small.jpg" width="300" height="225" />The Nova Scotia Yachting Association held its annual awards ceremony on Saturday, November 17 to recognize the best in the sport in 2012.</p>
<p>Sailor of the Year was Brian Todd, a coach with both the national and provincial sailing teams for many years who has made a significant contribution to the sport. Brian retires at the end of this year.</p>
<p>Offshore Sailor of the year went to Todd Barnard for winning his class in the Newport to Bermuda Race.</p>
<p>Female Sailor of the Year was Danielle Dube who continues to be one of the best Laser Radial Sailors in the country. She represented Canada at the 2012 Olympic Games last summer.</p>
<p>Male Sailor of the Year went to Paul Tingley who represented Canada at his fourth consecutive Paralympic Games last summer finishing 5<sup>th</sup> overall in the 2.4mR class.<br /><br />Youth Sailors of the Year were Allie Surrette and Ali ten Hove who captured the National Youth Championships in the 420 class and set a number of Canadian records while capturing large US Regattas.</p>
<p>Leagcy Fund Award winners were brothers Graeme and Jacob Chaplin-Saunders who continue to train and compete in the 470 class to earn a spot on the Canadian Sailing Team.</p>
<p>The Nova Trophy Community Coach Award went to Lesley Taylor from the Hubbards Sailing Club.</p>
<p>The WOW! Women On Water Award went to Kate Muir from the Mira Boat Club.</p>
<p><span style="line-height: 115%; font-family: 'Calibri','sans-serif'; font-size: 11pt;">Merit awards were handed out to 13 youth sailors from across the province; Julian Qu, Cameron Shaw, Jake Megaffin, Alex Sapp, Alex Burke, Luke Ruitenberg, Devan Dube, Greg Simms, Andrew Burns, Max Flinn, Corinne Peters.</span></p>]]></description>
